Its that time again! In celebration of the freedom of Juneteenth in 1865. This festival serves as a space for reflection, celebration, and community connection. This event honors the rich traditions of the African Diaspora and the powerful influence African rhythms and movements have had on dance styles around the world. We will explore dances from West and Central Africa to the Caribbean and the United States—learning how these traditions survived, evolved, and shaped global dance culture. .The event will take place over a span of two days. The Alcove Pavilion at Emory Glen will be filled with the sound of live acoustic music every Friday night in June during the Summer Serenade concert series. Waves of sound will wash over Jubilee once a month, leading to a calmer mind and healthier body at Jubilee Saturdays at 9 a.m. starting March 14. The free immersive music and meditation soundbath classes take place at the Joy Hub Recreation Center, 16818 Cheerful Trail in Hockley. Jessica Garcia of Chandra Yoga will guide attendees through shifting their perspective toward positivity with breathwork and soothing sounds.
