Vian Sora (b. 1976, Baghdad) creates dazzling, layered abstractions that channel the turbulence of life, ancient Mesopotamian history, and Iraq's diverse natural landscapes. For Sora, the multilayered effects of her paintings give a concrete form to the chaos of life. For its expanded display at AST, 'Outerworlds' will feature Sora's paintings in dialogue with works by sculptor John Chamberlain and painter Etel Adnan. (713) 496-9901

Nevine Mahmoud unearths uncanny worlds from stone: jumbo-sized fruits drip with glass, a contorted marble faun arcs like an acrobat, and children's toys are immortalized in white alabaster. Mahmoud's works are placed throughout Asia Society Texas' public spaces, engaging in a material dialogue with the building and manipulating one's understanding of nature. (713) 496-9901

She now resides in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from where she travels to her favorite "canvas": the vast ice fields of southern Patagonia. Rossi has undertaken long and perilous expeditions to the Arctic Circle in Greenland, Antarctica, the Namib Desert in Africa, and the Atacama Desert in Chile. 713-529-1313

Join us for a rare opportunity to compare, contrast, and enjoy the works of two exceptional artists. Text by art historian Alex Bacon accompanies. Alex Bacon writes, "Over…the 1950s, numerous artists working in different parts of the world arrived…at ways of activating perception. This global aesthetic orientation paralleled a period of unprecedented research into optics and the physiognomy of vision, accompanied by popular interest fed by the media. Carlos Cruz-Diez and Julian Stanczak are two such artists, Cruz-Diez based in Caracas and Paris, and Stanczak in the United States. Both artists sought, in their particular…ways, to materialize and actualize color." 713-529-1313

    Andrew Durham Gallery

1821 West Alabama St., Houston Montrose

Andrew Durham Gallery presents Vestiges of Existence, an exhibition by Jill Bedgood on view June 6 through August 1, 2026. Through sculptures and symbolic objects, Bedgood explores memory, lineage, and the emotional significance carried by everyday possessions. Worn items, handwritten notes, and natural anomalies become markers of human presence, revealing how personal and collective histories remain embedded in objects and landscapes. The exhibition considers the earth as a witness to both memory and injustice, preserving traces of lived experience over time. Functioning as a contemporary memento mori, Bedgood’s work reflects on transformation, impermanence, and the enduring weight of remembrance. 713-522-2336
