Dr. Lindsay Gary discusses Stokely Carmichael’s (Kwame Ture) 1967 visit to Houston, SNCC’s evolution toward Black Power, and Pan-Africanism as a bridge between the U.S. Civil Rights Movement and global struggles for liberation. This program is a part of a four-week public program series that explores the legacy of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) through the lens of Houston’s Civil Rights history and the broader African Diaspora.
