Hands-On Houston: Papel Picado

Houston Center for Contemporary Craft Uploaded by María-Elisa Heg
Join HCCC and current resident artist Guadalupe Hernandez to learn how to make a papel picado banner! Papel picado, or “perforated paper,” is a traditional Mexican decorative craft made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper. Experiment with various folds to create scalloped edges and mirror image designs. Complete your five cut panels and attach them to a string to form a banner that can be hung for your next celebration! What will your papel picado celebrate?
