“Blooming Roots from a Broken Earth” by Artista Elisabet Transforms Trash into a Symbol of Hope

Midtown Houston proudly presents Blooming Roots from a Broken Earth, a new public sculpture by local artist Artista Elisabet, one of ten recipients of the 2025 MidtownHOU Arts Micro Grant. Unveiling July 19 at Midtown Park, the piece transforms a trash can and reclaimed materials into a powerful symbol of renewal and climate awareness. Part of Elisabet’s Trash Can—You Can initiative, the artwork challenges us to rethink waste, habits, and our role in the climate crisis. “If trash can be reimagined,” says Elisabet, “so can we—and so must we, for the future of our planet.
